Q: What is the difference between a Personal Chef and a Private Chef?
A: A private chef is employed by one individual or family full time, and often lives with the family, and prepares up to 3 meals per day. A Personal Chef serves several clients, usually one per day, and provides multiple meals that are custom designed for the clients particular requests and requirements. These meals are packaged and stored so that the client may enjoy them at their leisure in the future.

Q: I'm a fairly good cook, why do I need a personal chef?
A: To have more time for the things you'd really like to do rather than do the shopping, cooking and cleaning for your family. And as an epicurean yourself you might enjoy a home cooked meal made especially for you even more!

Q: Why do you prepare the food in my kitchen?
A: The law requires personal chefs to use their clients' kitchens unless the chef has access to a licensed commercial kitchen. I will bring everything I need including my own pots, pans, and utensils, as well as all the ingredients necessary to prepare your meal(s).

Q: How long will you be in my kitchen?
A: I’ll be cooking several different entrees and side dishes from scratch, so it will take several hours. I cannot say exactly how many hours, however I am most willing to work with your schedule or situation, and we can make arrangements in advance so that my cooking date fits into your schedule compatibly.

Q: Do I have to be at home?
A: Actually, most clients prefer to be at work or away on personal matters during the cooking process. This allows them to enjoy their free time and helps me to remain focused on the job at hand and to operate safely and more efficiently.

Q: What do I have to do in preparation for your arrival?
A: Simply have a clean kitchen work area, an empty sink and room in your refrigerator and/or freezer. If you would like us to use your containers, it is important that they be thoroughly washed and ready in advance. Otherwise, we will provide containers at a moderate cost.

Q: Can you use my own containers?
A: Uniform size 2-3 times reusable containers (Ziploc or Rubbermaid) take less storage space in your freezer, and we will bring the appropriate containers for the entrees we are preparing each cooking date. However should you want to have me get long lasting glass containers, I will buy you one set of Pyrex or Corningware containers with lids for you (usually one time charge of $75-125)

Q: What if I want you to prepare additional side dishes as well?
A: I offer extra sides, salads with homemade dressing and/or desserts at an additional cost. Please consult me.

Q: The cost seems to be about what I would pay for an entree in a restaurant - why is that?
A: Although À Table Hawaii fees are expressed for the total of meals and servings prepared they actually represent all of the components that make up a professional personal chef service. For example, the assessment process that we complete determines what you like to eat, and how you like to eat, and whether or not you have allergies, sensitivities or medically specific requirements.
We will take this information into account when preparing your entree. Other components are the customizing of recipes to reflect your wants and requests, submitting meal selections for your approval, the grocery shopping, coming to your home to prepare your entrees in the safety of your own kitchen, plus packaging, labeling and storing your entrees are more features.

If you were to compare a personal chef service to restaurant service you could think or it this way: For a restaurant, you must drive to get there, possibly wait for a table, take a chance that your server is having a good day, and if you have allergies or special requests you don’t always have the guarantee that they will be honored, since most entrees are assembly line ready in the kitchen. After eating your meal you must pay for it, tip the server, and get back in your vehicle to drive home.

If you have a Personal Chef Service, you can heat a beautiful entree that has been prepared specifically for your palate and requirements, and eat it in the comfort of your own home around the table, with your family and without the stress to think about “what am I going to make for dinner?”

Q: How often will we need your service?
A: I’ll be happy to help you determine just how often you will want to schedule my Personal Chef Service to best serve your needs. We’ll make sure it supports your busy lifestyle without putting any pressure on you.
